Moreton Bay Calls for National Tree Day Vollies
0Moreton Bay Regional Council is putting out the call for residents, community groups and local businesses to roll up their sleeves and help plant more than 5,000 trees this National Tree Day, July 29.
Lifestyle and Amenity Spokesperson Councillor Denise Sims said across three sites in Moreton Bay, council is looking for volunteers to join conservation officers in the country’s largest community tree-planting event.
The planting kicks off at 9am at:
- Samford Parklands, Mount Samson Road, Samford Valley;
- Morris Park, Bigmor Drive, Elimbah; and
- Halpine Lake Reserve, Jasper Place, Mango Hill.
“Every year, our region’s tree day troops get stuck into it, digging and planting across Moreton Bay – and we need your help to do it all again in 2018,” Cr Sims said.
In total, volunteers have helped to plant more than 50,000 trees across the region’s parks and reserves, adding to council’s $51.2 million commitment to parks and the environment for 2018/19.
“The event is also a great chance to get advice from council’s environmental and conservation officers about ways you can incorporate native trees at your place.
All tools and equipment will be provided on the day together with refreshments.
“So get together with your family, a group of friends or your colleagues, register, roll up your sleeves, get planting and make a day of it.”
Volunteers are reminded to wear enclosed shoes, long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, a hat and sunscreen.
