Australia-Day-Nominations-2019Nominations for Australia Day Awards close at the end of the month and Moreton Bay Regional Council wants residents to get their applications in for their favourite community hero.

“The clock is ticking so don’t forget to get your application in for the 2019 Australia Day Awards,” Mayor Allan Sutherland said.

“The Australia Day Awards honour the unsung heroes in our community by celebrating their incredible achievements and positive contribution to helping make our region an even better place to work, live and play.

“We’ve seen the high calibre of nominations over the years including our golden girl and superstar Lakeisha Patterson who took out the Moreton Bay Regional Council Young Citizen of the Year back in 2017.

“Then of course we saw Karen Johns take out the Citizen of the Year earlier this year.

“The DARE Formal Wear store owner had a phenomenal story to tell in not only helping to fund domestic violence support services locally, but also offering formal wear items at affordable prices and helping financially disadvantaged Year 12 students with a donated dress or suit to help them attend their Senior Formal.”

Mayor Sutherland said the awards recognised the efforts of ordinary individuals doing extraordinary work in the community.

“If you know someone in the community that’s an inspiration to many, then we want to hear about them.”

Applications for Australia Day Awards close October 31.
