North Lakes Remembers

The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month attained a special significance in the post-war years.

The moment when hostilities ceased on the Western Front became universally associated with the remembrance of those who had died in the war. This first modern world conflict had brought about the mobilisation of over 70 million people and left between 9 and 13 million dead, perhaps as many as one-third of them with no known grave. The allied nations chose this day and time for the commemoration of their war dead.

After the end of the Second World War, the Australian and British governments changed the name to Remembrance Day. Armistice Day was no longer an appropriate title for a day which would commemorate all war dead.

In Australia on the 75th anniversary of the armistice in 1993, Remembrance Day ceremonies again became the focus of national attention. The remains of an unknown Australian soldier, exhumed from a First World War military cemetery in France, were ceremonially entombed in the Memorial’s Hall of Memory. Remembrance Day ceremonies were conducted simultaneously in towns and cities all over the country, culminating at the moment of burial at 11 am and coinciding with the traditional two minutes’ silence. This ceremony, which touched a chord across the Australian nation, re-established Remembrance Day as a significant day of commemoration. Four years later, in 1997, Governor-General Sir William Deane issued a proclamation formally declaring 11 November to be Remembrance Day, urging all Australians to observe one minute’s silence at 11 am on 11 November each year to remember those who died or suffered for Australia’s cause in all wars and armed conflicts.

Forty years later, in 2012, Mango was appointed as the Project Director of the Moreton Bay Rail Link. Missing Link for ‘Mango Hill Ring Road’

Kinsellas North Lakes Now

Kinsellas Road West North Lakes Now

Roadworks are always a nuisance, however necessary. The good news is that the upgrade of Kinsellas Road West is around forty percent complete, with an expected completion date of February 2018, weather permitting. Lamington Road is planned to be extended to link up to Anzac Avenue to then join onto Capestone Boulevard. It is understood the design is currently with the Department of Transport, waiting for approval. The Mango Hill Progress Association requested that the connection be constructed prior to the upgrade of Kinsellas Road West, in order to provide an alternative exit from the Village and avoid the situation of a one-way traffic light control system which has increased local residents travel time significantly. Unfortunately, this did not come to fruition..

Introducing the Editor of North Lakes Now!

Josh Hood Editor North Lakes Now 02

Josh Hood Editor North Lakes Now Magazine Community QLD

I would like to introduce myself. I am Josh Hood, Publisher and Editor. I am a local to the North Lakes / Mango Hill area since moving here with my family six years ago from Sydney, where I grew up. A Queenslander at heart (go the Mighty Maroons!), I have previously resided in Cairns for six years which I feel in total, gives me Queenslander status! After moving here in 2011, I established what is now known as North Lakes Web Design. Since then we have built and now have over sixty business websites under management, mostly businesses in the local area. Dissatisfied with available marketing options for my clients, and driven by a passion for community, I established Big Local in 2014. Three years later, we have five community websites for major Moreton Bay suburbs and a following of over 20,000 on various social media platforms. In my spare time, I contribute to the community as an active member of the Mango Hill Progress Association and Kallangur Business Association. North Lakes Now Magazine is an obvious extension of our marketing business and a very exciting addition for Big Local. This new monthly is a take home publication which can be picked up at most businesses in our distribution areas North Lakes, Mango Hill and Rothwell. I sincerely hope you all enjoy reading what we have enjoyed putting together.
