Ikea North Lakes and Westfield expansion on ice

Eagerly awaited by the entire region, the North Lakes Ikea store, previously earmarked for completion sometime in 2014, is being rescheduled. It is now “a few years, or a couple of years away” as reported in the Courier Mail, because of the complexity of the project with having two major stores (Ikea and Westfield) in such proximity.
Westfield North Lakes planned expansion, incorporating an eight-screen cinema and 100 retail stores, is also delayed, due to Moreton Bay Council and Westfield wrangling over the potential cost / or not, of parking.
Commencement dates for both of these projects presently appear to be “unknown” (Jan 2014).
Update May 2014 – Ikea are once more keen to progress the North Lakes store and hope to open their doors to the public by late 2016. The timeline of the build is however totally dependant on Moreton Bay Council and Wetsfield resolving their “paid or free” parking dispute.
