New Playground Equipment for Westfield North Lakes

0
Westfield Kids Activities Playground

Westfield North Lakes have new playground equipment planned for completion in November 2015.

The new “Under The Sea” theme will have North Lakes kids enthralled. The images are artist impressions and subject to change but the planned playground looks like it will be a favourite choice for North Lakes local kids.

After reviewing public feedback on playground designs, the final inspiration was settled on being the Moreton Bay coastline ecosystem.

An all age group facility with slides, swings or climbing equipment, amongst the wonderful world of coral reefs, seagrass and wildlife.

Westfield Kids Activities Playground

With every local looking forward to the new IKEA store, cinemas & restaurants, the playground renovation is perfectly timed. This North Lakes shopping centre is set to be a focal point for the region.

The current play area is scheduled to close from Saturday September 12.

IKEA Construction With No Delay

0
New Ikea Store North Lakes

After years of delay due to planning complexity and Moreton Bay Council wrangling with Westfield over paid parking, it is finally official and work has commenced on IKEA North Lakes.

In March, Council resolved it’s action against Westfield over paid parking after seeking independent advice and weighing up the cost to the public associated with pursuing the matter, against possible outcomes. Council decided that the cost would be too high and dropped the matter.

With that behind us, we will be pushing trolleys around flat-pack heaven sooner than you can say, “that’ll be $10.00 for parking please”.

Ikea North Lakes Store

Only the second Queensland store, the new Ikea North Lakes will be located next to Westfield and you can rest assured that it will offer everything you would expect from a full service Ikea store.

Completion is expected as early as the second half of 2016, in perfect timing with the completion of the Moreton Bay Rail Link and the store will provide around 250 local jobs.

Highlights are;

A 12,000 square metre showroom and market hall
A 450+ seat IKEA Restaurant
1,000 car parking spaces
Children’s playground
Swedish Food Market

Recruitment for North Lakes will shortly begin across all areas of the store, including furniture showroom, check-outs, sales, IKEA restaurant, children’s play areas, warehouse, as well as positions in interior design, visual merchandising and management.

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland said Ikea’s second Queensland store would provide one of the biggest boosts to the region in the next few years and predicted shoppers would travel from the greater Brisbane region and the Sunshine Coast.

Coffee Club and Hogs Breath open in Mango Hill

0
Coffee Club and Hogs Breath Opening Mango Hill

Signs are still going up but trading has begun at Coffee Club Mango Hill and Hogs Breath North Lakes (in Mango Hill).

Coffee Club Mango Hill Opens

The number of people contacting us about the open date of these venues is a positive indication of the future popularity of these venues and the need for alternative social outlets in North Lakes and Mango Hill.

Coles at Mango Hill Market Place is due to open next Wednesday 10th December.

With another ten years of residential development earmarked for the Mango Hill area, there is clear need for it’s own shopping precinct. This is the second major shopping precinct for Mango Hill after The Mango Hill Centre where the Mango Hill Tavern is located and many more businesses will be popping up on the Mango Hill side of Anzac Parade in coming years.

The entire road frontage from The Mango Hill Marketplace down to St. Benedicts College is to become a commercial hub. At this stage it is not clear the type of businesses that will be opening up along this strip but it is hoped that they will include shopping precincts that increase the overall foot-traffic in North Lakes / Mango Hill and not more car-yards.

Show Coffee Club Mango Hill and Hogs Breath Cafe North Lakes your support by visiting and following their Facebook Pages and keep up to date with all their happenings.

For all Coffee Club enquiries, contact Coffee Club Mango Hill on (07) 3491 7766 or visit Coffee Club Mango Hill Facebook Page.

Plantation Road overpass works complete

0
Plantation Road Overpass

Opening of the Plantation Road overpass is possible as early as this weekend with hand over to Moreton Bay Council expected today.

Part of the original Stockland Masterplan for North Lakes, the new Bruce Highway bridge linking North Lakes with Kallangur and Dakabin is much anticipated by local residents, in particular those with children attending schools on the other side of the Bruce Highway.

This latest addition to North Lakes infrastructure, opens up the North Lakes Business Park to businesses and residents on the western side of the Bruce Highway and allows North Lakes residents direct access to Dakabin train station, local businesses, schools and other facilities such as the Dakabin Tip (Waste Management Facility).

Plantation Road Overpass

The Plantation Road overpass will also ease the regular congestion on the Boundary Road overpass which is currently undergoing a major upgrade.

North Lakes Bruce Highway Overpass

On-ramps to the bridge were funded and works completed by Moreton Bay Regional Council and the bridge itself was a Stockland project.

Lake Eden Community Clean-up a success

0
Rubbish pulled from Lake Eden

An official Lake Eden clean up day was held on Saturday 1st November, arranged by Dave Norman of the Mango Hill & North Lakes Environment Group.

There was a great turnout by the community including members of the Bahai Organisation, ParkRun, Oracle Volunteers and federal MP Luke Howarth.

Lake Eden Clean Up Day

Lake Eden is a prominent nature reserve and a focal point for visitors and residents of the North Lakes community. It’s natural health and beauty reflects upon all residents and we are thankful to have some very pro-active environmental conservationists such as Dave Norman in our community. Dave has this month deservedly been awarded the 2014 State Environmental Award for Murrumba for his work in the community.

The clean up day was a huge success, notwithstanding that thrirteen bags of rubbish did not blow in from the last storm. We ask all residents to care for our extensive natural environment here in North Lakes and Mango Hill by taking their rubbish with them or placing rubbish in the bin at all times.

Rubbish pulled from Lake Eden

A 1 trolley, a tyre, a crate and 13 sacks of rubbish, mainly bottles and cans, were removed. The day was topped off with a bbq supplied by the Lakeside Cafe and drinks donated by Oracle. Dave, who is a singer/songwriter supplied his original and inspired wildlife songs.

Dave Norman is the driving force behind the Mango Hill & North Lakes Environmental Group. You can follow their activities such as the Bushcare Program and become involved by getting in touch from their Facebook Page – Mango Hill & North Lakes Environment Group.

Westfield Car-park Shade Sail Upgrade

0
Westfield North Lakes Shade Sails Upgrade

For a number of weeks now North Lakes residents have navigated around the significant upgrade works being undertaken in the Westfield car parks.

The time taken to undertake this project is down to it being not simply an upgrade to shade sails but also to underground infrastructure.

westfield-north-lakes-car-park-upgrade

A large amount of infrastructure work is being undertaken including underground electrical works upgrades.

The good news is that shade sail footings are due to be poured next week along with commencement of steelwork fabrication and Westfield is aiming for the speediest possible completion.

It is hoped that work will be finalised by the beginning of Summer.

In the meantime, there are always plentiful car spaces in the larger southern side car-park and upper level parking lot.

Been to the new North Lakes Library?

0
North Lakes Library - The Corso

The Corso building sets a new environmental standard for civic buildings as the first public building in Australia with 5 Green Star certification by the Green Building Council of Australia.

The Corso community precinct which opened on September 13, contains a mega library, community centre and three levels of commercial office space.

Design and construction of the new North Lakes Library building is in line with high environmental standards, optimising natural ventilation and light as well as utilising solar power, rain water harvesting and technology to regulate air-conditioning.

North Lakes Library - The Corso

Complete with modern facilities and impressive contemporary artworks, the new building is something that North Lakes residents can be proud of.

The new “destination library” has arrived at the cost of two smaller libraries at Kallangur and Narangba, despite a 4000 signature strong petition to the Moreton Bay Regional Council. Much of the concern was for elderly residents of these areas who will now be required to travel from these areas to use the North Lakes Library.
